Death Row Penpal Program

Since 1973, over 180 former death row inmates have been found innocent or exonerated in the United States. Additionally, there is often a constitutional arbitrariness to who is put on Death Row. Convictions tend to disproportionately sentence minority groups and those who are accused to have killed a white person.

Our Death Row Penpal Program seeks to spark a reformation of our Criminal Justice System. What does it mean to attempt to follow St. Paul’s conviction that we “owe no man anything but to love one another for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law '' - Romans 13: 8? And How often do we turn down the opportunity to embody the words of Jesus who says to “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” - Matt. 5:44

These penpal connections are not to change the person, or to draw out sympathy but to to step into the practice of offering love to what many would deem enemies(those on death row).
