About Sabrina

Sabrina Setaro is dedicated to ending the death penalty in South Carolina through her work with the South Carolinians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (SCADP). Her opposition to capital punishment has deep roots, shaped by her upbringing in post-war Germany and her Christian faith.

Sabrina earned a Master of Science and a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Tübingen, graduating in 2004 and 2007, respectively. Shortly after, she moved to the U.S. to pursue postdoctoral studies at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, where she later held various roles in the Biology Department until 2018. It was during her time at Wake Forest that she first connected with activist work through Anthony’s Plot, a neighborhood community in Winston-Salem dedicated to reconciliation, stability, and belonging—a community she remains actively involved with today.

After a decade in academia, Sabrina transitioned to the corporate world as a data scientist, where she worked for five years. In 2023, she decided to realign her professional focus with her personal values and joined SCADP as a volunteer.

Today, Sabrina balances part-time work in accounting with her passion for social justice, nature, and the arts. When she’s not advocating for reform, she explores painting and photography as creative outlets and seeks restoration in the outdoors.
