Rev. Hillary Taylor 

Executive Director (She/Her)

Rev. Hillary Taylor is the Executive Director of South Carolinians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (SCADP). Before working for SCADP, Hillary spent time working as a young adult missionary in South Africa and Miami, FL, a pastor in Saluda, SC, and a hospital chaplain at Greenville Memorial Hospital. A graduate of both Furman University and Candler School of Theology (Emory University), Hillary has been working against the death penalty since organizing with the #KellyOnMyMind Campaign in 2015 for Kelly Gissendaner in Georgia. When she returned to South Carolina, she became the spiritual advisor to Brad Sigmon, who was executed on March 7, 2025. She continues abolition work in his memory. When she is not working, Hillary loves being outdoors, doing yard work, and spending time with her wife and pets.

Chenasia Scott

She/Her

Chenasia Scott is a 21-year-old senior at Lander University from Anderson majoring in Human Services with minors in Psychology and Pre-Social Work. She plans to become a medical social worker because she enjoys helping and supporting others. Chenasia is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.. She is excited to be a part of SCADP to learn more about the death penalty, ways to help those affected by it, and possible ways to create change. She also hopes to gain skills and experiences that will help her in her future career.

Alaina Parent

She/Her

Alaina Parent is a rising senior at Columbia University in New York City, studying political science and Russian language on the pre-law track. Before SCADP, Alaina worked in a paralegal position in a boutique white-collar and criminal defense law firm on Wall Street, as well as held several research positions within Columbia's Russian, political, and economics departments. She first became interested in capital defense and death penalty abolition after reading Sister Helen Prejean's Dead Man Walking before entering her undergrad, and is ecstatic to join the SCADP team in their mission to rehumanize, mobilize, advocate, and restore the rights and livelihoods of those impacted by South Carolina's usage of the death penalty. Outside of academics and legal work, Alaina is passionate about disability mentorship, manual-transmission cars, and the oud (a Middle Eastern lute).

Rylee Hoffman

She/Her

Rylee Hoffman is a senior at Lander University pursuing degrees in Criminology and Sociology with minors in Pre-Law and Forensic Science. She is a member of the Honors Program as well as the Acrobatics and Tumbling team. After graduation, she plans to attend law school. Her ultimate goal is to work with the Innocence Project. Rylee is very excited to work for SCADP because she wants to gain a better understanding of the impacts of death row and learn more about the resources available to help people in these circumstances. In her free time, she enjoys going to the beach with her mom, spending time with her animals, and doing crafts such as diamond painting and puzzles.

Laiba Ashfaq

She/Her

Laiba Ashfaq is a rising senior at Furman University double majoring in Information Technology and Economics with a minor in Data Analytics. Originally from Pakistan, she brings a cross-cultural perspective to her academic and professional work, having studied Global Leadership and Entrepreneurship in John Cabot University in Rome and completed internships in both the US and Pakistan. At Furman, Laiba serves as Research Assistant in the Economics Department, where she co-authored a paper examining the relationship between institutional trust and social and political outcomes. Her technical skills include STATA, R, Tableau, and data visualization tools. She is passionate about using data to drive social impact and is drawn to SCADP's mission of criminal justice reform through evidence-based advocacy and community organizing.
